Shellabration Inc. is planning its second annual Oktoberfest event slated for Saturday, October 2nd at the Oleson Park Bandshell in Fort Dodge. Despite the unusally cold 36° F high temperature at last year’s inaugural event, it was truly a success with everyone in attendance commenting on what a great time they had. Word quickly spread after the event how cool it was (both literally and figuratively). We’re looking forward to having better weather in 2010 and building even bigger attendance. Regardless of what happens weather-wise we are now experts in the art of enclosing and heating tents, so fear not should the temperature dip again. We’re prepared!

Building on our first ever attempt in 2009, our plan is to work to recreate the atmosphere and cultural traditions of Deutschland’s oldest and the world’s largest annual festival, Oktoberfest. Complete with typical German culinary traditions such as bratwursts, hot German potato salad and sweet and sour red cabbage (to name a few), the event will feature 40’x125’ “Bier Garten” tent and greater food offerings. This year’s event will also feature an expanded offering of polka music complete with two regionally renowned “Oom Pah” bands, Malek’s Fishermen and Karl & the Country Dutchmen. Both bands have considerable notoriety on the dance music circuit playing at venues across the upper Midwest (and beyond). They both play a terrific mix of traditional polka music and German bier hall favorites. Their respective shows are a lot of fun and big on crowd participation. Don’t miss out on the traditional tapping of the first keg scheduled to kick off the festival and as celebrated in Munich each year. Don your lederhosen and dirndls and prepare for some foot tapping, beer drinking fun. Leben ist gut!

Contributing to the ambience will be a selection of German draught beers, commemorative steins and Bavarian décor guaranteed to set the mood leading up to the evening’s main event and Bandshell stage headliner, Vic Ferrari. This Appleton, Wisconsin band is one of the hottest show bands in the Midwest. Featuring a powerful horn section, they play an incredibly vast array of music with something for everyone including Johnny Cash to Willie Nelson and Queen to Bon Jovi. They routinely sell out the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake and are a must see act for those that have never had the privilege. As with all Shellabration shows, we promise you’ll be wowed! Just ask anyone that saw them last year.

One of the highlights of last year’s event, this year’s Oktoberfest will once again feature a live broadcast of the nationally televised Iowa vs. Penn State football game. With the start time just announced for 7:02PM (ABC or ESPN), you can watch the game in our Bier Garten on a oversized big screen TV. Watching Iowa defeat Michigan at last year’s event truly added to the atmosphere. Should the Iowa State vs. Texas Tech game be picked up on television our intention will be to broadcast that game also. Thanks to both Mediacom and Aaron’s, you don’t have to choose between staying home to watch the game and attending Oktoberfest. You can do both…at the same time! Catch all the action in the most unique environment you’ve ever watched a game in, right in the middle of Oleson Park. This is the type of cool stuff that has come to typify a Shellabration event. Come check it out!
